One of Cuba’s most prominent and internationally known contemporary artists, Juan Roberto Diago was born in Havana in 1971 where he still lives today. In 1990 he graduated from Havana’s prestigious "San Alejandro" National Academy of Visual Arts. Since then Diago received numerous national and international prizes and awards. In recent years he has been regularly featured in solo and group shows throughout Cuba and Latin America as well as the United States, Canada and Europe.
His works combine painting, collage and mixed media techniques, his themes frequently touch both on his identity as a contemporary Cuban, and as a man of African ancestry. Today his works are included in private collections world-wide. Diago is a member of the Unión Nacional de Escritores y Artistas de Cuba (UNEAC).
