Born in Shingha, Japan, Rinko Kawauchi is a photographer known for her innovative use of color, soft focus, and revelatory sequencing. Kawauchi has been publishing photobooks to international acclaim since 2001, of which just a few are UTATANE, HANABI and HANAKO (2001, Little More), Illuminance (2011, Aperture), Ametsuchi (2013, Aperture) and When I was seven (2019, HeHe). The artist is known for her exceptional ability to expound upon the everyday, thoughtfully picking out the fleeting moments of extraordinary beauty that we all witness.
