On April 25, 2008, Zane
Bennett Contemporary Art, at 826 Canyon Road in Santa Fe, New
Mexico, will present an exhibition celebrating and advancing the
art of modern, fine art printmaking. The show, 5 x 5, features
new work from five of the country’s most accomplished
printmakers. “The work will cover a broad spectrum of
traditional hand pulled techniques as well as examples of
digital creations and works that are a combination of both,”
says Brad Hart, a printmaker himself and the guest curator of
the show. These artists are at the forefront of the movement to
blend traditional, hand-pulled printing techniques and digital
effects, pushing the envelope of printmaking.
Each of the five artists in
5 x 5 is a master in his or her own right:
-
John Boyd will be retiring
this year as head of the printmaking department at Wichita
State University (Wichita, KS) where he has taught since 1972.
-
Karina Hean teaches
printmaking, drawing and painting at Fort Lewis College in
Durango, CO.
-
Mitchell Marti runs
Interbang press in Santa Fe, NM, where he collaborates with
artists to produce fine-art prints, and teaches printmaking at
IAIA in Santa Fe.
-
Marc Bosworth is a graphic
designer by day and teaches printmaking at Friends University
in Wichita, KS.
-
Steve Campbell is the
Director of the legendary Landfall Press, formerly located in
Chicago, now in Santa Fe.
Cumulatively, the work of
these five artists—who mix modern ideas with traditional
printmaking techniques and combine exquisite, painstaking
draftsmanship with state-of-the-art technology—has a galvanizing
effect, giving viewers an unforgettable glimpse of the depth,
versatility, and chameleonic beauty of the best fine art
printmaking today.
