Overview

José Vincench (b. 1973, Cuba) is a conceptual artist guided by issues that are relevant to his religious affiliation, political vision and Cuban social life. The artist uses elements characteristic of religious Afro-Cuban rituals and breaks them down with graphic simplicity. His works often feature gold pigment and flattened geometric forms.

 

Vincench studied at Instituto Superior de Arte in Havana. He has exhibited around the world, including at 532 Gallery Thomas Jaeckel (New York), Galeria Virginia Miller (Miami), and Havana Gallery (Zurich). His works are found in the collections of UBS (New York), Axis Contemporary Art (Canada), and Galerie MAM (Cameroon), among other private collections. The artist lives and works in Havana, Cuba.
