Add Nick Cave’s Head Dressed color lithograph to your print collection today! This beautifully colored print was inspired by Nick Cave’s kinetic fiber sculptures known as Soundsuits. Cave’s first Soundsuit was created in 1992 and while they are joyous in appearance, they have a more somber translation. These suits were created in response to the brutal attack of Rodney King by the LAPD. Cave constructed the first suit out of twigs, all the time thinking of the intensity of King’s attack and the LA riots as an African American man. Cave has been creating these secondary skins ever since as a way of protecting the wearer from the world.
The print focuses on a detail of Nick Cave’s Soundsuit building a vast and dimensional baroque garden. Rather than covering the body entirely, Cave exposes the wearers torso to the viewer, making it a more vulnerable and open subject compared to his Soundsuit sculpture. Behind the figure, a kaleidoscopic monochromatic wallpaper accentuates the joyous floral headdress making for a compelling layered print.
