Enrique Figueredo
Enrique Figueredo is a Venezuelan-American artist whose work examines globalization, immigration, economics, and religion through the patterns, designs, motifs, and symbols associated with ancient civilizations, the colonization of the Americas, and mythology. Drawing on the disconnect between personal experience and established historical narratives, Figueredo cultivates a figurative space where communities may freely engage with History.
Figueredo’s recent solo exhibitions include Sigue Pasando Por Aquí at Form & Concept, Santa Fe and At the Edge of Lawlessness at The Re Institute. His recent group shows include Multilayered at International Print Center New York, Surface Impressions: Inaugural Biennial of Relief Prints at Lux Center for the Arts, The Happiness Index at ARTag Gallery in Helsinki, and a site-specific installation for Art In Odd Places 2017: SENSE.
Figueredo currently resides in Austin, Texas where splits his time between his artistic craft and teaching as an Assistant Professor of Practice, Studio Art: Print, at The University of Texas at Austin. He holds a BFA with a concentration in printmaking from Purchase College (SUNY) and an MFA from Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University. He is the recipient of the VCUarts Fountainhead Fellowship in Painting and Printmaking, The Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts, Robert Blackburn Printmaking Award, and the Nadine Goldsmith Fellowship, Vermont Studio Center.
