Overview

Peter Doig (b. 1959, Scotland) is celebrated as one of the most important representational artists working today. His paintings are characterized by their equal focus on landscape and figure, melding art historical ideas and personal experience into painterly abstractions.

Doig studied at the Wimbledon School of Art and later received his MA from the Chelsea College of Art and Design in 1990. He has since held several solo exhibitions including “Peter Doig: No Foreign Lands,” which opened in 2013 at the Scottish National Gallery in Edinburgh. Notably, this was notably the artist’s first show to be held in the country of his birth.

Today, Doig’s works are held in the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, the National Gallery of Art (Washington, D.C.), the Tate Gallery (London) and the Goetz Collection (Munich), among others.
