Jaune Quick-To-See Smith
The Bitterroot, 2024
Lithograph
11 1/2 x 15 in
29.2 x 38.1 cm
Jaune Quick-To-See Smith opened her first New York retrospective at the Whitney Museum of American Art in early 2023. The show’s curators write: “Employing satire and humor, Smith’s art tells stories that flip commonly held conceptions of historical narratives and illuminate absurdities in the formation of dominant culture. Smith’s approach importantly blurs categories and questions why certain visual languages attain recognition, historical privilege, and value.” Smith is a member of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes and is also of Métis and Shoshone descent.
