Richard Anuszkiewicz’s kaleidoscopic paintings made waves in the New York art world of the 1960s and 70s, and became iconoclastic works of the Op art movement. The American artist was known for his geometric abstractions, so vibrant they would provoke perceptual illusions such as afterimages. In this work, titled Blue Tinted Star, colors appear to emanate from the central architecture, and give the illusion of dimensional form, demonstrating the artist’s exceptional skill.
