Curator Talk | Lucid Perturbations: The Sewn Drawings and Books of China Marks: 2–3 p.m.

16 May 2026
Overview
435 S. Guadalupe St.
Join us on May 16, 2026, from 2-3 p.m. for a curator talk about Lucid Perturbations and the sewn works of China Marks, featuring gallery director Carina Evangelista and longtime friend of China Marks, Pamela Matsuda-Dunn, also an artist. Evangelista and Matsuda-Dunn will lead us through Marks's unorthodox sewn multiverse of allegory, dark humor, and wit, offering insights into what possessed Marks to produce, with singular focus, over 600 sewn tableaux in the last twenty-three years of her art practice. Evangelista and Matsuda-Dunn will also share how Lucid Perturbations came to be; the artists' cache of references for the largely allegorical works; and the process behind the artist's sewn oeuvre. A rare opportunity to gain insight into the world of an unsung artist's life and practice, this conversation accompanies China Marks's largest solo exhibition.
