In land surveying, triangulation is the process of determining the location of a new point by forming a triangle from two known points. This print and craft showcase identifies two known points—an artist and a particular landscape—and aims to create a new understanding of place in an unknown viewer.
"Known Points features literal landscapes, abstract evocations of place, and cultural landscapes," says Director Jordan Eddy. "My favorite artworks in the show blend all three approaches to placemaking."
In Known Points, Santa Fe-based artist and designer Calli Beck presents a series of mixed-media landscape compositions titled with specific coordinates that offer strikingly unfamiliar views of iconic American mountains. Her work is interspersed with works on paper by master printmakers such as Matt Magee and rising artists including Jon Greene and Enrique Figueredo.
This group exhibition is the first in a yearlong series spanning the second floor of the gallery. Each themed showcase interweaves editioned works on paper from Zane Bennett Contemporary Art with contemporary craft objects from its sister collection, form & concept.
