Jiha Moon

Jiha Moon (b. 1973, South Korea) works between a variety of mediums, exploring the fluid nature of identity through the global movement of people and culture. Her paintings, ceramics, and prints often incorporate imagery from East Asian and Western popular culture, ultimately melding kitsch and low-art forms with fine art references to art history and mythology. Moon has called herself a “cartographer of cultures and an icon maker in my lucid worlds.”

Moon received her BFA from Korea University, an MFA in Western Painting at Ewha Womans University, and an MFA in painting at the University of Iowa. In 2011, her practice was celebrated with the prestige of a Joan Mitchell Foundation Grant. Recently, she has exhibited at the Florida State University Museum of Art, Derek Eller Gallery (New York), Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art (South Carolina) and the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia. Her works have been acquired by the Asia Society (New York), High Museum of Art (Atlanta) and the Smithsonian Institute (Washington D.C). The artist currently lives and works in Atlanta, Georgia.
