Sol LeWitt dreamed up these colorful geometric compositions on a trip to Italy in the 1980’s. The resulting series of conceptual paintings features rippling brushstrokes of color that represent a radical aesthetic leap for the artist. In these works, the American artist translates his recurring motifs into prints, involving himself in the hands-on process of lithography. It’s a departure from the more idea-oriented and team-based ethos of his large-scale wall drawings.
