A photograph of Apaches interred in Fort Sill, Oklahoma, inspired "Fort Sill Apache." They sported government-issued white outfits. The white pants tucked in their high-top moccasins inform the silhouette of Wheeler’s adaptation of the pants. The inverted pyramid design on the top is repeated in the cape as well as the beading in the face mask. The jagged edges of the tulle simulate face paint.
