"Buffalo Girl" is inspired by the storybook about love and acceptance titled "Buffalo Woman," written and illustrated by Paul Goble. Wheeler designed the dress with inset panels to simulate the leggings that the women are depicted wearing in Goble’s illustrations. Handwoven in cotton, the summer winter weave structure simulates elk teeth.
