South to Heaven: Migrations Wave centers on an electromagnetic radio recording, received
through a silver maple tree near the confluence of the Platte River and Missouri River in East Central
Nebraska. The two radio stations heard in the recording are from the nearby Omaha Nebraska metro,
representing two very different but intertwined cultures that now exist on Pariru’ (Pawnee Land).
1020AM La Nueva plays an afternoon cumbia mix while 1110AM KFAB presents conservative news/talk
radio shows.

These sonic transmissions of very different worlds speak to global, American, and Plains politics.
The represented cultures entangled in Nebraska and beyond are captured by a displaced Pawnee
sonically exploring the origin landscape. These audio indications are encountered while moving
through concrete corridors, gravel roadways, industrial cornfields, cliff swallow colonies, cottonwood
stands, and grinding waters. The reverberations through these spaces move from Indigenous territorial
interventions, contemporary immigration issues in the Central Plains, and current U.S. fascist politics
that bleed into world life.

The recording, treated with a rebajada style production (slowed down and dropped in pitch), also
weaves into the artist’s personal narrative as a dedication to his partner who has relocated back to her
homeland of Mexico in 2025 due to the prevailing political climate in the U.S.
