Thank you for your interest in Metre 05 by Rhona Jack!
Fascinated by the relationship between industrial machines and the buildings that house these machines, Scottish artist Rhona Jack is systematic and repetitive in her artistic practice. She explores the role of the individual in industrial production, finding the meaning of each artwork through her own repetition of material processes. Jack blends fine art, craft, and design through printmaking, sculpture, and fiber art.
We can see Jack apply these themes and techniques in Metre 05. The grid background and clear geometry convey the grand, mechanical nature of industrial equipment. Her clear use of five bright colors and repeated shapes—trapezoids, parallelograms, and rectangles—against the square grid evokes repetition across the paper, as if freezing a moment in an industrial process.
Rhona Jack graduated with a First Class BA (Hons) in Fine Art from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design in 2017. In 2018, she participated in the Royal Scottish Academy’s New Contemporaries exhibition, where she was awarded the Glasgow Print Studio Award and Glenfiddich Residency Award.
