Jim Dine was known for the particular iconography of his work, series of which were dedicated to painting subjects such as robes, hearts, and houseplants. His painting Sun’s Night Glow is a departure from his more well known cache of motifs, turning his gaze to the more gothic symbol of a crow illuminated from behind and framed in dazzling yellow. To the American artist, birds represent a strange beauty that lingers in the shadowy corners of his psyche.
