Expand your print collection with the iconic work of by esteemed American Artist Donald Sultan. The visual effect of the Red Trumpet is quite impactful and the brilliant hue has a wonderful sense of depth. The coloration has a soft matte finish that accentuates the simplicity and elegance of the piece. This is a quintessential Sultan and is immediately recognizable as his work. Although primarily classified as a still life, Sultan maintains that his works (despite their representational objects—flowers, lemons, eggs, buttons) are first and foremost abstract. His images are distinctively textured and equally balance the contrast of positive and negative space.
Donald Sultan received his BFA from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill and later his MFA from the School of the Art Institute Chicago before moving to New York in 1975. In the city, he became a part of the New Image movement along with fellow painters Susan Rothenberg and Julian Schnabel. In addition to his paintings, Sultan has collaborated with the Pulitzer-prize winning playwright David Mamet on the illustrated novel Bar Mitzvah (1999). His works are represented in the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, the Tate Gallery in London, the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Tokyo, among others.
Red Trumpet is a 2008 color aquatint and is editioned 4/50. The work is prominently signed and numbered in pencil by the artist vertically on the left as is Sultan's style. The paper size is 47 x 35 inches. The piece is not currently framed though we do offer framing services to our clientele. The work is currently priced at $4,000 but I can extend the discounted price of $3,500. Please let me know if you have any additional questions. I am happy to provide detailed images, a shipping quote - anything that may be helpful to you. Have a lovely rest of the day, hope to speak with you soon.
