Rashaad Newsome


Multidisciplinary artist Rashaad Newsome (born 1979) is known for his provocative work exploring representations of race, power, gender, and beauty. Working in collage, sculpture, video, music, computer programming, and performance, he creates opulent imagery by sampling advertising, Black and Queer culture, popular culture status symbols, rules of heraldry, and decorative arts.


Newsome has exhibited and performed in galleries, museums, institutions, and festivals throughout the world and his work is in numerous public collections including the Whitney Museum of American Art, NY; The Brooklyn Museum of Art, SFMOMA, The Studio Museum, NY; Los Angeles County Museum of Art; The McNay Art Museum of San Antonio, TX, and the recently inaugurated National Museum of Afro-American History and Culture.
